Saturday Scenes – From The King’s Sword

This snippet is from The King’s Sword and was shared as part of a weekly event on Google+ called Saturday Scenes, in which writers share scenes and snippets from their various works. It’s a lot of fun to see what others are working on. Please feel free to comment! Sometimes these pieces are finished (like this one). Other times, they are brand new and unedited, so you’re getting a rough sneak peek into my newest projects.   Interested in reading more? Saturday Scenes – From Friends (working title)

I participate in a weekly event on Google+ called Saturday Scenes, in which writers share scenes and snippets from their various works. It’s a lot of fun to see what others are working on. It just occurred to me that I hadn’t been posting those scenes here. So, here’s the one from this past week. I’ll also share my older pieces from Saturday Scenes as well, and in the future I’ll cross-post to my blog. Please feel free to comment! Often these pieces are brand new and unedited, so you’re getting a rough sneak peek into my newest projects.   […]

Deleted Scene from The King’s Sword (Erdemen Honor 1) – SPOILER WARNING

This is a deleted scene from The King’s Sword, the first in the Erdemen Honor series. There are spoilers for The King’s Sword in the discussion below about my goals for the story and the reasons why this scene was deleted. SPOILERS BELOW! This scene was written with the idea that maybe Kemen and Hakan’s victory was “too easy.” Some of my beta readers thought that the physical conflict was too simple and there wasn’t enough intrigue and betrayal. I saw their point, and I did make some edits in response to that critique. But the story isn’t fundamentally about the […]

Extra: A Cold Wind – Scene from Riona’s Point of View

Kemen relates this scene from his point of view in A Cold Wind, and I thought it would be fun to tell it from Riona’s point of view… they have very different perspectives. If you have the paperback version, the scene starts on page 99 with I left the main company far behind… SPOILER WARNING: This is a scene close to the middle of the second book. There aren’t huge spoilers in here, but there are some pretty big clues, so if you don’t want anything spoiled, don’t read any further!   *** Kemen arrived back from Rikuto in the middle […]

A Writing Soundtrack for A Long-Forgotten Song

This is a soundtrack / playlist that I’ve been listening to while I work on A Long Forgotten Song, my new Christian urban fantasy supernatural thriller series. Unfortunately I can’t figure out how to reorder the songs, so it’s not exactly the order I want, but oh well.

School Days – Extra

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, New Years, and holiday season! I’m excited to begin this new year This is a first scene from a short series of extras I’m working on set in the world of Erdemen Honor. It’s not a complete story or anything, just a little snippet. I’m also making good progress on Book3 and the new urban fantasy novel, tentatively titled Invisible. You can check out the Kickstarter project for Book3 here.   School Days Chavo ran his hands over his face and through his hair. He’d arrived only the night before, barely in […]

Basileus and the Cat

This is a foray into a Christian/paranormal historical fantasy world. I’m thinking about a novel or two in this world. What do you think? This is a free short story. If you like it, please consider checking out my other work as well! Basileus and the Cat C. J. Brightley   Basileus hunched deeper into his cloak as he hurried through the rain. It dripped into his eyes and soaked through his hood into his hair. He shivered as the wind gusted again and when he reached the door he sighed with relief. The sack of potatoes under his arm […]
